It was a busy old day on Friday, printing off boarding passes, confirming Airbnb confirmations and the usual last-minute scramble for a new suitcase. The reason for the commotion was because, as I write this, I’m the first wave of Fourth-Dayers embarking on a trip to New York!
Along with my colleagues Xanthe and Nikki, the team will be spending five weeks stateside, attending events like New York Tech Week, as well as meeting partners, clients and friends of Fourth Day.
We’ll be blogging and tweeting regularly to make sure we pass on our learnings to clients and friends of Fourth Day asap.
It’s been a year since we were last in the US and a lot has changed. We’ve welcomed new team members to each of our offices and opened in two new locations – Casablanca and, as of last week, Berlin! We’ve also taken on some fantastic new clients including SCM World, who we’ll be working with to deliver a PR programme in the UK and the US.
Skype and FaceTime have made international communications easier but it’s not a replacement for grabbing a coffee face-to-face. A growing presence in the States means that regular trips are really important for us; from keeping an eye on trade events to strengthening relationships with partners and checking in on the media landscape. For many of our clients, who have one eye on US expansion or are already up and running here, this on the ground insight delivers a lot more value than anything we could achieve sat at a desk in the UK.
