Better Bankside
Events Academy case study :
As active members of its CSR Group and Business
Club, Fourth Day has supported the Better Bankside business
improvement district since 2002.

The Events Academy is an annual project run by Better Bankside
as part of the organisation’s commitment to bring
local businesses and the community together in London’s
SE1 postcode. It recruits young people from youth clubs
within the South London Borough of Southwark to gain work
experience from member businesses and to develop skills.
Participants then use their skills to plan and carry out
an event for the local businesses.

As part of the summer 2010 Events Academy programme, Fourth
Day conducted a training workshop for the participating
young people.

Results
:
The workshop, ‘How to publicise
your event’, provided training on how to identify
key audiences and how to work with the media. The session
also offered guidance on how to write a press release which
participants put into practice by drafting a release to
support their own event.

Following the training, Fourth Day worked closely with the
Events Academy team to help them refine their press release
and publicity strategy for the event, which was held on
2nd September at The Arches club in London Bridge. It included
networking, performances and a video commentary based on
the theme, ‘the generation of tomorrow betters your
Bankside today’.

The workshop marked the beginning of a drive by Fourth Day
to provide ongoing workshops and services to help charities
raise their profiles through the effective use of PR and
communications.
